Acupuncture ~ Ancient medicine for the modern world

What is Acupuncture?

Gulf Coast Acupuncture

Acupuncture therapy (also known as Medical Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Acupuncture)  is a medical system that has been in use to diagnose, treat and prevent illness for over 23 centuries.  For thousands of years, Oriental Medicine  has acknowledged that there is a vital life force that flows through all things which is called “Qi” (pronounced chee and means “Energy”).  Qi flows along pathways in the human body which are related to the organs and tendo-muscular system. Qi flows inside our bodies like a river flows through the land.  When the balance of this Qi is disturbed due to trauma, poor diet, medications, stress, hereditary conditions, environmental factors or excessive emotional issues, pain or illness often results.  Acupuncture focuses on correcting these energetic imbalances by breaking up any obstruction and encouraging an even flow of Qi, which stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

How does Acupuncture work?

Getting Acupuncture

Acupuncture therapy, also referred to as alternative medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine, has gained new respect in modern times as some of the reasons for its effectiveness have come to light.  Modern science has shown that the stimulation of certain acupuncture points influences the neuro-hormonal components of the body, thereby influencing and balancing the function of the organism.  Neuropeptides, such as endorphins, are endogenous substances which influence our immune systems, brains, moods and thoughts, and the balance of various physiological activities.  Acupuncture therapy can directly influence the synthesis and secretion of these various chemicals, promoting harmonious functions of the body’s various systems.

Acupuncture treatment focuses on the individual as a whole and by helping your body to remove any and all Qi blocks, you are able to achieve wellness in your entire body. Acupuncture is a system that is best used on a regular basis to intercept any energy blocks before they can begin to manifest as problems in your body.
